On the occasion of Alexa’s sixth anniversary in India, it was announced by Amazon on Thursday that a 200% increase has been observed in the number of smart home devices connected to Alexa within the country over the past three years.
In addition, a 100% rise in requests made to Alexa for controlling compatible smart home appliances, including smart lights, plugs, fans, TVs, security cameras, ACs, water heaters, and air purifiers, has been noted by Amazon, reflecting the surge in connected devices over the same period.
Following the launch of Alexa and Echo smart speakers in India, the smart home sector has seen significant evolution, with voice technology being a major contributing factor, as stated by Parag Gupta, Director and Country Manager for Amazon Devices in India. He explained that setting up a smart home has become more accessible for customers, who can now easily control a compatible smart bulb with Alexa or use a smart plug to automate existing appliances. This development has led to an increasing number of people realizing that the process of establishing a smart home is less complicated than they previously thought.
Furthermore, it was mentioned by the company that an evolution is being seen among customers in India on their smart home journey. An increase of 37% in the usage of Alexa to control smart fans and smart ACs, the highest among all smart home appliances, was experienced in the last year.
